Soireenews is privy to information that some top shots of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region who are close associates of the newly- confirmed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the assembly, Madam Dorcas Elizabeth Amoah, are allegedly scheming for avenues to amass wealth from the illegal small scale miners popularly galamsey operators.

Sources told this news outlet that these NPP personalities who include Nzema East constituency executives are also vigorously lobbying for various assembly projects to enrich themselves.

The sources said the issue reached a crescendo recently when these persons led by the biological son of the MCE, Mr Gerald Cudjoe, aka Joe, resolved to give the party a bad name in the municipality.

On Friday, November 5, 2021, a team calling itself Anti-galamsey Task Force for Nzema East, made up Charles Erzoah, Constituency Secretary, who presented himself as the Personal Aide (PA) of the MCE, Nzema East, Eric Essien, Constituency Organiser and Deputy NADMO Coordinator-Nzema East, Mr Dramani-Environmental Officer, Mr Gerald Cudjoe aka Joe, son of Hon Dorcas Elizabeth Amoah, and Obugie, a driver clandestinely patrolling galamsey sites in Nzema East.

They visited the following mining-prone galamsey communities like Akango, Asonti, Amgbansia and Eshiem.

According to the sources, they allegedly extort money from the galamseyers and encourage them to continue with their illegal small scale mining activities.

Sources indicate that the anti-galamsey task force however threatened those they perceive to be reporting galamsey issues to security personnel to put a stop to the practice.

At Amgbansia, the sources hinted that these personalities allegedly collected GH¢30,000 from the people and invited them for an official meeting with the current MCE for permission to operate.

"We are appealing to security agencies in Nzema East to investigate this issue and make the findings public for all to see.

"We are surprised about the involvement of the son of Mrs Dorcas Elizabeth Amoah in this disgraceful deals," the sources stated.
