Akwaboah advises colleagues, "Help yourself and stop waiting on the government for help"

This comes after a number of industry participants, including actors, actresses, directors, producers, and singers, urged Ghana's government to provide them with financial support.

They contend that the sector is in dire need of government funding.

They claim that it is quite tough for them to accomplish their desired goal when they have to finance everything on their own.

For example, on July 25, 2023, Alex Okyere, Managing Director of MultiChioice Ghana, disclosed that the government needs to assist the Ghanaian entertainment sector.

For example, on July 25, 2023, Alex Okyere, Managing Director of MultiChioice Ghana, disclosed that the government needs to assist the Ghanaian entertainment sector.

Speaking at the Graphic Showbiz Forum with the theme "Future of Ghana Movie Industry, Bright or Bleak?", he urged the government to get in.

In March 2022, gifted Kumawood actor Bill Asamoah implored the government to provide them with financial help.

"We can finish this project in no time if the government helps out with a two million dollar funding," he stated.

He continued, saying, "The movie distribution system is always evolving, and the globe has become more technologically and digitally advanced lately. This indicates that the country's old method of distributing local films is rapidly losing market share and is no longer as successful as it once was, necessitating the development of a new system like digital marketing and distribution.

Lyrical Joe, a Ghanaian singer, has proposed that the money spent on football in Ghana should go into supporting Ghanaian musicians following the Black Stars' elimination from the 2018 AFCON.

"The amount that is spent by the government on football to sponsor all these things, the same amount is not spent by the government on music," stated Lyrical Joe in an interview with Amansan Krakye on Property FM. The government doesn't spend that enormous sum on us, even though musicians may spend that much on their work.

Recently, Article Wan appealed to investors to support the improvement of the Ghanaian music industry from its current state.

According to him, Nigerian musicians are seen as superior to Ghanaian musicians despite not being any better than the latter due to their commitment to their trade.

According to him, Nigerians are the market leaders in Afrobeats, and their substantial financial resources have given their music a powerful sound. Though we are trying our hardest, that amount of funding is not available to us.

As to his statement, "It is even more challenging to compare the two countries because the majority of Ghanaian artists fund their activities."

Speaking on Uncut with D-Black, Akwaboah counseled his colleagues to take care of themselves and quit depending on government assistance with money.

He said that Ghanaian musicians could have to wait an eternity for help from the government if they don't figure out how to make it on their own.

"I can advise all musicians to find methods to complete their tasks rather than assuming that someone else will do it for them," he stated.

"Because you will wait forever if you're waiting for someone to get into government to sort out the showbiz industry or sort you out," he continued.
