Akufo-Addo nominates 4 judges to Supreme Court

Four judges have been proposed by President Nana Akufo-Addo for appointment on the Supreme Court bench.

They are a Justice of the High Court, three Justices of the Court of Appeal, and one.

They consist of Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu Asiedu, Justice George Kingsley Koomson, who served as chair of the Ejisu Committee of Inquiry, and Justice Barbara Frances Ackah-Yensu.

Interestingly, Justice Ernest Yao Gaewu is the only candidate for the High Court.

The nominations were announced by Alban Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, during business on Tuesday, July 26, 2022.

He received a letter from President Akufo-Addo that included this.

The Judicial Council informed me of the suitability of my nominations for appointment to the Court of these individuals by Article 144 (2) of the constitution by letter dated July 4, 2022, under the signature of its chairperson, Chief Justice Anin-Yeboah, due to ongoing and anticipated vacancies at the Supreme Court this year, he informed the House.

Their selections are vetted, and the parliamentary body can accept or reject them.
