Aged musicians should receive monthly funding from MUSIGA and GHAMRO, according to Naa Amanua

Veteran traditional musician Naa Amanua, of the Wulomei fame, is requesting that the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) and the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) set aside some money each month for the distribution of payments to elderly musicians.

The renowned singer said it was appropriate for them to receive the compensation they are owed after earlier pleading with the two organizations to treat elderly musicians with respect in an interview with Graphic Showbiz.

We won't go after MUSIGA and GHAMRO for payment for the work we've done over the years, we promise. It is only fair that they give us what we are owed.

"We came to meet other musicians who were already performing, and if we are not treated well, what are we telling the next generation of musicians?" We should be an inspiration to the younger generation at this stage of our lives, but I'm sorry to say that's not the case," she remarked.

The 74-year-old singer expressed concern that veteran artists are not living well after having paid their dues, and suggested that MUSIGA and GHAMRO lend a helping hand by putting measures in place to address this.

"I communicate regularly with the majority of the musicians in my age group, and I can assure you that things are not going well for them. Many of them struggle to make ends meet, and it is unfortunate to see such musicians suffer since the systems that are supposed to be supportive aren't functioning properly, she stated in a recent interview with Graphic Showbiz.
