After bringing Mohammed Kudus to Black Stars, I was in danger of losing my job

Former Black Stars head coach James Kwesi Appiah has said that inviting teenage footballer Mohammed Kudus to play for the team put his job on the line.

After choosing Kudus to play for the national team, Akwasi Appiah claims he got threats from some Ghana Football Association (GFA) officials.

Kudus joined the team in time for the qualifier for the 2019 African Cup of Nations match against South Africa in November.

When he presented Kudus to the team, Kwesi Appiah revealed what he had to go through and that he might have lost his job at the time.

In addition to [Mohammed] Kudus, there are some more young players. In an interview with Dan Kweku Yeboah TV, he said, "There were some who felt the young players didn't merit the Black Stars call-up.

"But as for me, I had seen them and trusted them. I always urged my athletes to win over Ghanaians rather than me. It is in your best interest to succeed.

My employment was in jeopardy since I had been informed that I would be fired if I lost the match. I didn't mind since I believed I was acting in the best interests of the nation.
