The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare visits was to find ways to clamp down criminal activities in the Kwahu enclave.

The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has paid a historical visit to Kwahu paramountcy (Abene), on Wednesday, September 23, 2021.

The purpose was to meet all chiefs in the Kwahu Traditional Area to discuss possible ways to eliminate highway armed robbery in the area and to assess the performance of police personnel and the security situation in the region.

He was at Kwahu Abene, the Paramount seat of the Kwahu Traditional Council, to interact with chiefs.

The importance of meeting the chiefs is to have discussions about the crime rate in the area and how best the chiefs and the other stakeholders could help the deployed Anti-crime squad to disarm these notorious armed robbers.

The meeting with the chiefs at Abene was held behind closed doors and he is expected to tour Kwahu Afram Plains and inspects some ongoing police projects as well as facilities.

Briefing the media, Chairman of the Eastern Regional Security Council (REGSEC), Seth Acheampong, conceded the crime rate in the Region.

He explained the IGP’s visit was to assess the work of the Anti-robbery Squad dispatched to tame criminals in the Eastern Region especially the Kwahu enclave.

The Kwahu enclave has been recording highway robberies, violent clashes among nomadic Fulani herdsmen and farmers, among others.

The Regional Minister was confident discussions would help address public safety concerns and inform as well as better manage crime on the Kwahu enclave and the Eastern Region as a whole.
