A unique community with no police post and criminal record:The story of Dagbamate

Societal growth is believed to be influenced by a corresponding increasing social vices whichvices in society are the reason for law and order.

Personnel who are mandated by law to maintain law and order is the police. But,interestingly,

Dagbamate tells a different narrative. Located within the Ketu South District of the Volta Region, an agrian-dominated community that promises to be a purely traditional setting.

The community, according to its leaders lays no burden on the nation in terms of the provision of social amenities that aids a proper communal living.

An obvious traditional society, Dagbamate, seems to be telling quite a different story as it has no pressing demand for police post.

This is because the community leaders believe that their gods entrust's security consciousness into the hands of every individual.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Soireenews.com at the sidelines of a recent annual celebration, the Paramount Chief of Dagbamete, Togbe Klu-Agudzeamega II, disclosed that the Dagbamate Community has instituted statutes that forbid residents from walling their houses.

He demonstrated that the order enables the community members to be each others keeper such that, each inhabitant is to monitor and identify unusual happenings in neighbours' house and raise alarm.

This coupled with the vigilance of community members, he explains why there is no police presence. He further added that almost everyone in the community is known by somebody therefore making it easy to identity a stranger among them.

Touching on the steady development within the community, Togbe Klu-Agudzeamega II explained that the level of development witnessed in the community is financed from the proceeds and pledges made to the gods.

He stated that through the deligent service of the leader of the gods(the priest, Moses Davor),the community has provided it own school buildings, hospital, nurses, doctors and teachers' bungalows water projects amongst others.

The community, he further indicated has resolved to use proceeds from pledges in addition to others and put up an ultra modern palace with accommodating rooms.

The paramount chief indicated that Dagbamate, being an environmentally- friendly community, places premium on nature therefore has directed residents to plant at least a tree in their houses.

As part of the directives, the community members are also to ensure that no resident builds a fence wall around their house.

This is to enable residents see any unusual activities within each others' house. Given that the rules set by their gods, the priest indicated outnumbers that of the Christian faith, yet are obeyed by the latter.

Mr. Davor said the residents have been made to believe that whatever one engages in whether good or bad, generations after them will reciprocate same.

The history of Dagbamate transcends beyond the borders of Ghana as it transcends to other West African neighbours including Togo in the East, La Cote D'Ivoire in the West, and Nigeria.

Commending the residents for their under, standing, and obeisance, he,, thethe refore stated that accounts for the progress within the community.

He urged other communities to emulate the great values of the potentially great and developing community like theirs to take the burdens off the national coffers by instituting home-grown measures aimed at developing central government involvement.

Priest of the gods(Afetortu) Mr. Moses Dovor explained that the community for the ds building of churches within but most of their children happened to be pastors while others are Christians.
