A new Board of Governors of Calvary Methodist (DICCES) Vocational & Technical Institute in Tutu Akuapem, in the Akuapem North Municipality, Eastern Region of Ghana has been inaugurated.

The 17 member board inauguration programme took place amidst infrastructural challenges and a drop in numerical strength.

The Board is made up of Rev David Myles Abaidoo, His Lordship Justice Lartey Young, Mr Richard Ofori Dako, Mr Opoku Addo, Madam Rita Odame and William Ofori Akwaboa, representing the Methodist Church, Ghana.

Madam Elizabeth Korkor Amanor, Education Director of Akuapem North Municipality, representing Education Directorate. Mr Eric Siaw Darko, Municipal representative, and Mr Kwame Dadzie representing the Member of Parliament.

Others include Nana Dr Ani Agyei III, Twafohene of Tutu Akuapem, Nana Akuffo Kwapong, Mawerehene of Tutu Akuapem, Nana Afua Adubea, Tufuhemea of Tutu Akuapem, representing Tutuman Traditional Council.

The rests are Mr Samuel Dako, Chartered Accountant, Lawyer, and Auditor of ADB, Mr Felix Lartey, Representing PTA and Old Students respectively. Also Elder Animpong and Elder Christian Awuku, representatives of Tutu Local Council of Churches.

The Chairman of the Board, Rev David Myles Abaidoo opined “As a board, we expect to move the school forward. We have heard from the outcome of Tutuhene speech, they have achieved a lot. Our board wants to move the school beyond where it is now academically the school is doing well but we want them to do better. Infrastructure wise, you can see there are infrastructure issues. Our mandate is to help management to move the school to the next level and that is what we intend to do”

Inaugurating the new board, the Municipal Director of Education Elizabeth Korkor Amanor charged the board to ensure judicious use of resources allocated to the school to create and promote a congenial academic environment to enhance effective teaching and learning.

She stated, that despite the powers of the board, certain decisions cannot be taken by the board because their core mandate is not known before the inauguration and charged the headmaster to provide the board members with a draft constitution.
 
Calvary Methodist (DICCES) Vocational & Technical Institute, formerly known as Tutu ICCES since its establishment in 2007 had operated in a rented facility as Dormitory until October 2021 when the school has relocated to a new site, even though unfinished renovated facilities.

Nana Dr Ani Agyei III, Twafohene of Tutu Akuapem, an international business consultant, and the Managing Partner of Mullah & Associate, an Audit and Management Consultancy firm in Ghana, who spoke on behalf of the board bemoaned, the high academic feat chocked some years ago can be revived through a holistic approach, which encompasses discipline, quality teaching and learning as well as infrastructural improvement.
 
The Chief of Tutu Akuapem, Nana Appiah Anti IV, urged the new board to be proactive and efficient to help lift the image of the Institution, with quality education delivery, discipline, adding that more importantly, as a matter of urgency, "draft a constitution to help you oversee the activities of the administration of the Institution".
