"No one here expected to see Gareth Bale arrive here today but around 10.15 am, Spanish time, he did just that - and gave a little wave as he passed through security,” Ben Ransom in Madrid reports.

"The noises from Bale's camp is that the move is getting closer. He's got two years left on his deal at Real Madrid; Tottenham would have to find somewhere in the region of £20m to cover loan fees and wages. There's no suggestion him turning up this morning has anything to do with the deal being derailed but there was a bit of shock among the local reporters here this morning when he turned up!

"He's been frozen out at Real; him and Zinedine Zidane don't seem to see eye to eye but he didn't want to be forced somewhere he didn't want to go. He sees this as a move that could really reignite his career; he wants to go somewhere he's respected and he feels he still has a lot to offer."
