Ghanaian entertainment manager, Kiki Banson unlike his counterparts has defended the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the fresh promises it made in its most recent manifesto.

According to him, the NPP will need another four years to fully realize all its promises as it is unrealistic to expect it to bring to fruition every single thing it has vowed to do in the short space of four years.

On the back of the unfulfilled 18 promises it made to the entertainment sector back in 2016, the NPP government has further promised to construct up to the minute facilities including theatres, recording studios in Accra, Kumasi, Tamale and other parts of the country.

Entertainment stakeholders were quick to lambast the current administration for its attempts to paper over its failures. With many calling for an apology or an open statement where the government admits that it has failed the industry concerning the promises it made.

Rex Omar was amongst the most vocal stakeholders, alongside Michael Ola. He stated that the NPP must take the industry players for fools if it thinks it can make new empty promises after the last ones.

“So far, it’s three months to elections and I haven’t seen even one. What angered me is the fact that they said they have built one in Koforidua and one in Kumasi. I was in Kumasi two weeks ago and I didn’t see any theatre."

"This day and age, you can’t do that because when it happens like that, it’s like you’re insulting our intelligence. It’s better for you to tell us that you weren’t able to build the theatres and that you need more time, rather than telling us you have built a theatre in Kumasi. It’s a blatant lie” he angrily said.

Kiki Banson has now gone on record in defense of the NPP, he stated that four years cannot be enough for any administration to fully achieve its promises.

"I think their (NPP Government) promises are achievable and well thought through, and if I'm to go by anything they have promised, in my view, looking at what they have done in other sectors, I'm inclined without a doubt that they will continue to go ahead and carry it out," he said.

He cited the National Theatre as an example, which according to him, a lot of time was taken in the planning stage before construction of the facility begun.

"If you asked me, to build a state of the art auditorium doesn’t take four years, it takes time, as to whether it’s being completed, that’s the question, as to whether they are not doing what they (NPP) said they will do, I doubt, it takes time. There’s a lot of planning that goes into it. I stand to be corrected but even our national theatre that we had took about six good years of planning before the first brick was laid, so a promise that is made, I don’t think it will be done instantly,’’ he concluded.
