Seven students, out of the 55 persons in Accra Girls Senior High School, who tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered and been discharged.

However, the infection count increased to 55 after a mass testing exercise was by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) in the school

Subsequently, the infected persons were sent to isolation centres for management and treatment.

And so far, seven have recovered and have returned to the school premises ahead of the 2020 WASSCE on July 20.

Tertiary education institutions and Senior High Schools reopened on June 15, 2020, and June 22, 2020, respectively.

According to the Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, Madam Monica Ankrah, so far seven schools in the Greater Accra Region have recorded 62 COVID-19 cases.

Also, at least nine senior high schools and one junior high school in the Oti Region have tested positive for the disease.

Due to this, calls for closure of schools amid the pandemic has gained steam, with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) blaming the government for the spike in cases.

The government has however maintained that calls for closure of schools are still premature.

The Ghana Education Service, has, for instance, noted that closing schools and allowing students home, will rather lead to further spread of the disease.
