Conor McGregor has been fined 1,000 euros (£861) after pleading guilty to a single charge of assault.

The UFC fighter, 31, punched drinker Desmond Keogh in the March Arch Pub, in Dublin, after he refused to drink a shot.

The incident was caught on CCTV and the footage was played to Dublin District Court. In the clip, McGregor can be seen pouring out three shots of his Proper Twelve Whiskey, the brand in which he founded. After he and one man down their shots, Mr Keogh refused the third, telling the Irish star: ‘I don’t want to drink that s***’, the court heard.

After receiving his fine, McGregor stood up to address the judge, telling him that what he did was ‘very wrong’. He then apologised to his victim and told the court: ‘I assure you nothing of this nature will happen again.’ His solicitor Michael Staines had previously stated that McGregor fully accepted responsibility for the incident.

Mr Keogh did not suffer any physical injury in the attack and did not want to make a victim impact statement, the court was told. He has received some compensation from McGregor, although the amount was not disclosed to court.

Speaking about the incident previously, McGregor said: ‘Whatever comes my way, I will face it. ‘Whatever comes my way, I deserve it. I will face this head on. I will not hide from it.’ McGregor announced his retirement from mixed martial arts in March, but has since said he will take part in a comeback fight in Las Vegas on January 18.
