Allotey Jacobs Spoke the Truth, Reason He Was Suspended – Lawyer Ampaw

Renowned Ghanaian legal Practitioner, Morris Ampaw says the controversial suspension of Mr Bernard Allotey Jacobs from the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) was because he chose to be objective and “neutral” in his dealings.

According to the lawyer, all political parties expect its communicators to toe their ideologies even if they are occasionally incorrect, adding that, Allotey Jacob erred by choosing to speak a supposed “truth” over his party’s stance.

“A party expects you to toe the party’s line.  If the truth is against your party, you are not supposed to say it. So when you are in a party and you want to act neutral, the party will not accept you. Because there is nothing like neutrality in politics” he said in an interview on Rainbow Radio today

The NDC suspended its former Central Regional Chairman, Allotey Jacobs over claims of “persistent anti-party conduct”.

The suspension is purportedly linked to viewpoints of Allotey Jacobs on radio shows that contradicts the party’s ideologies.

Reacting to this, Lawyer Ampaw said, the embattled NDC former Regional Chairman should have known that, an individual cannot freely speak in a political party, but must always support his/her party’s agenda no matter how wrong it is.

“I believe Allotey Jacobs knew this was coming, because he is a Politician. But he had made up his mind to speak the truth regardless, and the moment you want to be truthful, don’t join any political party” he added.

Lawyer Morris Ampaw asserted that, the NDC acted within the confines of their binding party code of conduct. However he noted that, if Allotey Jacobs feels he was unfairly treated, he should seek legal action.
