Wole Soyinka stands up for Afrobeats musician Davido amid Muslim controversy
African-American musician Davido's contentious music video, which upset some Muslims, has been supported by Nobel Prize-winning author and Nigerian native Wole Soyinka.

Davido posted a song by a different artist on his label that appeared to show guys dancing in front of a mosque.
According to local media, this sparked fury in several Muslim communities, with individuals ripping down Davido posters.
Even though Davido later removed the offending video, 89-year-old Soyinka urged him not to apologize.
Soyinka stated, "I have not seen the clip, but I insist on the artist's right to utilize dance in a religious setting as a fundamental given."
The video has drawn criticism from a number of prominent people, including former legislator Shehu Sani, who tweeted that Davido should apologize because the video "offended" his supporters.
The text was described as "absolutely disrespectful hurtful and offensive" in a message by Bashir Ahmad, an advisor to former President Muhammadu Buhari, to his 1.6 million followers.
Two Nigerian media outlets reported on Wednesday morning that Davido's manager, Israel Afeare, had issued an apology regarding the contentious video on Instagram.
The alleged apology, though, is no longer visible on his Instagram account.
Both Davido and Logos Olori, whose song Jaye Lo was included in the video, have remained silent.
"We Muslims don't mix our religion with jokes in any way," he stated, especially when it comes to matters involving prayers.
