Western Togoland: Police arrest 22 over Ho STC Attack

At least 22 suspects have been arrested by security operatives in connection to an attack at Ho Intercity STC bus terminal alleged to have been masterminded by a secessionist group.

A joint police and military operation led to the arrests on Thursday, October 1.

Commanding Officer of 66 Artillery Regiment, Colonel B.B Pantoah said they acted based on intelligence from the CID.

They have all been taken to the Volta Regional Headquarters of the Ghana Police Service.

“As soon as the CID alerted us, the joint team moved to the hotel to arrest them,” he revealed, according to reports by Joy FM.

President Akufo- Addo had earlier assured that his government will deal with secessionist groups that have staged attacks, in clamour for an independent state.

According to the President, the security agencies are undertaking steps to quickly deal with separatist groups.

“It is just a handful of people; these secessionists. We will deal with them. I have no doubt about it but there is no value for this country if I start making hysterical statements. I trust the security agencies, the armed forces, the police, I trust their leadership and intelligence agencies and I know they are all working very hard to make sure that this matter is dealt with as quickly as possible,” Nana Akufo-Addo said in an interview on Hello FM in Kumasi on Wednesday.

The President had received a lot of backlash for remaining quiet on the issue after the group recently blocked roads leading to the Volta Region and attacked the Ho branch of STC.

But the Akufo-Addo said, the appropriate establishments have taken up and the matter, and he believes the security agencies are professional and equipped to deal with such insurgence.
