Fred Amugi has made known that the movie industry was on the brink of featuring Jerry John Rawlings in a movie before he fell sick.

He said that he and the producers of the movie were very confident that the two-term president and two-time coup leader would appear in the movie when he recovered until they heard that he had passed away.

Fred Amugi admitted this while was speaking on Simply Showbiz.

The focus of the interview, which featured Alhaji Sidiku Buari, the premier President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), was about the contribution of the late former president in the arts and entertainment sector on the show hosted by MzGee.

“I keep saying [Jerry John Rawlings] was the very person who made drama die and he was the same person who resurrected the theatre by putting up the National Theatre,” the former President of the Ghana Actors Guild (GAG) admitted.

“So, there were no rehearsals for drama like it used to be. It took a long time before we were all ‘opened’ and at that time the enthusiasm with which people loved drama had died.”

Rawlings' mother who died last month, was laid to rest at the popular coastal town in the Volta Region.

Jerry John Rawlings died few weeks after, in the morning of Thursday, November 12, 2020, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

He died at the age of 73, leaving behind a wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings and four children.
