VIDEO: Ghana Gov't Organizes Ceremony in Honour of George Floyd

The government of Ghana has organised a ceremony in honour of George Floyd, the black man murdered by a white police officer in Minneapolis - America.

The ceremony was done through a collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the Ghana Tourism Authority, the Office of Diaspora Affairs at the Presidency and the Diaspora African Forum.

The said event was held at today, Friday, June 5, 2020, at the Dubois Centre, in front of the Diaspora African Forum.

 

There were mixed reactions towards the programme. Some Ghanaians criticized the government for "misplaced priorities", while others supported the solidarity event.

 

George Floyd, an unarmed blackman was killed by the police on May 25.

Mr Floyd's final moments were caught on camera. In the footage, a white police officer is seen pinning him to the ground by his neck, despite him pleading that he couldn't breathe.

This sparked several demonstrations that spread across the world
