The Deputy National Coordinator of Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN), Bawa Mubarick, has stated that members of the University Teachers Association of Ghana deserve to be treated better for their services.

His comments come at the back of a directive from TEIN’s national secretariat to its members to wear red armbands in solidarity with the current strike action by the UTAG.

The secretariat stated the directive had become necessary due to the constant disrespect shown by the government to teachers.

UTAG has been on strike since Monday, August 2 in demand for the restoration of a 2012 single spine salary structure agreement that would have seen entry-level lecturers earn the cedi equivalent of $2,084 monthly.

The Tertiary Education Institution Network (TEIN) of the NDC is asking the government to, as a matter of urgency, meet the conditions spelled out by the University lecturers for academic activities to continue.

The Secretariat has thus directed all TEIN members to put on red armbands on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, in solidarity with the lecturers and hinted of series of actions until the matter is resolved.
