Gary Neville has questioned Manchester United’s transfer business this season and disclosed that if their centre back pairing is not reformed, It will be tough for the Red Devils to excel in games in the challenging season.

Manchester United's backline was thrown in doubt after Solskjaer side’s lost their first Premier League game 3-1 against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have had their focus on winger, Jadon Sancho this summer as the ideal solution to their forcefulness with a deal far from agreement.

The defence is a department they have not sought for a replacement ahead of the season as the transfer window gets to a close.

According to Neville through Sky Sports, a 'dominant centre-half' is required to shield the Manchester club from conceding many goals.

"We can talk about Jadon Sancho all we like but until Manchester United get a centre-back who can run and defend one-on-ones they are never going to win the league. They are never going to win the Premier League with that centre-back pairing.

"They have to get a mobile, dominant centre-half in alongside either Lindelof or Maguire.

"Old Trafford is a big pitch and particularly if your full-backs are going forward then you are going to leave your centre-halves one-on-one.

"Over the years, the best Man Utd centre-back partnerships have always had that really quick one - whether it be Jaap Stam or Rio Ferdinand or Gary Pallister - who has lightning pace to get across and snuff out the danger. Lindelof and Maguire just don't have that."

Two goals from Zaha and a first-half strike by Townsend gave the Eagles their second victory in Matchday 2 at Old Trafford.

New signing, Donny van de Beek scored his debut goal after he was introduced in the second half by the manager.
