Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara has tested positive for COVID-19, the club has confirmed.

The player is currently self-isolating according to the necessary guidelines.

The former Bayern Munich midfielder signed for Liverpool on September 18, 20202 and made his debut against Chelsea in the Reds 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

Ahead of the game against Arsenal, he underwent a late fitness test and was confirmed by the club to have suffered a minor knock.

The 29-year old missed Monday’s match against Arsenal and per the statement of Liverpool FC, he is in good health after exhibiting minor symptoms of the virus and is getting better.

“The club has, and will continue to follow, all protocols relating to COVID-19 and Thiago will remain in self-isolation for the required period of time,” the club added.

 “It is the choice of each individual whether they reveal publicly the outcome of a COVID-19 test,” LFC first-team doctor, Dr Jim Moxon.

“We have followed all the protocols to the letter and Thiago is OK. He will be self-isolating now as per the guidelines and hopefully, he’ll be back with us soon.”
