The Municipal Chief Executive of the Suhum Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region, Mrs. Margaret Darko has incurred the wrath of the Suhum Constituency executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for her continuous lies about the state of the road network in Gojiase town.
According to the party, it has come to the attention of the Suhum Communication outfit of the NDC that a recent interview granted by Honourable Margaret Darko, the MCE for Suhum, on Accra FM a radio station in the Greater Accra Region has been filled with falsehoods and misleading statements with regards to the state of the road network in Gojiase town.
The party in the statement signed by its
Communication Officer in Suhum, Mr Dove Maxwell and copied to Soireenews.
com noted that the continuous lies of the MCE has compelled for the NDC to set the record straight and throw more light on the situation.
The statement emphasized that the
outpouring of concerns from the good people of Gojiase regarding their bad roads is indicative of the failure of the MCE and the Akuffo-Addo-Bawumia NPP government.
It indicated that instead of addressing their grievances with seriousness and empathy, the MCE rather resorted to unhelpful and divisive comments.
According to the statement, the Suhum MCE  comments about the NDC claiming to have constructed all roads in Ghana are uncalled for and unfortunate and highlight her dishonourable attitude towards the people of Suhum.
"Let us now present the facts to counter the falsehoods propagated by the MCE. During her interview, Margaret Darko claimed that the Gojiase road was not motorable in 2015/2016.
The statement noted that she and the NPP campaign team visited the same place by cars, not by foot, adding that "this raises questions about her description of the road as "unmotorable."
Furthermore, the statement pointed out that the MCE asserted that she had reshaped the Gojiase Tetekasum road three times since she assumed office.
"However, the facts tell a different story. The road has been reshaped only once since 2016, and that was in 2020. Even then, the work was done halfway, primarily for the 2020 elections. It is the poor quality of this shoddy work that has contributed to the current deplorable state of the road," the statement explained.
The statement pointed out that the MCE's inability to provide specific details about the contract awarded and the contractor's activities further exposes the lack of substantial progress in addressing the road issue.
The statement said it is evident that no significant contract was awarded, and the claims made during the interview were an attempt to cover up their failure.
Additionally, statement asserted that the MCE falsely claimed credit for the extension of electricity to Gojiase, which was initiated by the NDC in 2015, stressing that "It is important to set the record straight and acknowledge the efforts of the previous administration in initiating this development."
Moreover, the statement indicated that the CHIP compound that the MCE boasted of the building was a project funded by the Japanese NGO JOYCEP.
According to the statement, this exposes the lack of creditable projects initiated by the MCE and the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia NPP government in the constituency.
The statement said the  MCE and the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia NPP government have failed to deliver credible projects in the constituency, including Gojiase township and its environs, stressing that the  only legacy they can boast of is the disappointment and neglect they have brought upon us since assuming power.
"Through this rejoinder, we draw their attention to the fact that Gojiase and Suhum as a whole deserve better roads and infrastructure. The national cake is meant to benefit all citizens, not just a select few," party of the statement reads.
The statement urged the MCE and the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia NPP government to address the legitimate concerns of the people of Gojiase and take immediate action to improve the road network and overall infrastructure in the constituency.
The NDC in the statement jabbed the Suhum MCE and stated that the time for empty promises and misleading statements has passed, and it is high time for real progress and development in Suhum.
