Gary Lineker says England's head coach, Gareth Southgate should be “begging” Jamie Vardy into his team as the European nation's tournament looms.

Jamie Vardy quit National duties in 2018 having featured 26 times with seven goals. The 2019/20 Golden Boot winner’s reason was to spend much time with his family following a restricted role in the team which limited his time on the field for the national team.

Vardy is on 12 goals this season, five behind Mohamed Salah of Liverpool and one short off compatriots, Harry Kane and Dominic Calvert Lewin.

The Sports pundit has told talkSPORTS that the Leicester City talisman is in the form of his life and would help transform the three Lions of England in every tournament he will be featured in. He has therefore advised that one huge trophy at the National level for Vardy will grease his football career and well-acknowledged the results he has influenced in English football.

“All the decision that we talk about with Gareth Southgate with the players that he’s got to fit into his side and get on the plane, he needs to be on the phone to Vardy and say: “Listen, I know I didn’t use you properly and I know you had enough of sitting on the bench and getting five minutes here and there.”

“I know he doesn’t want to play second-fiddle to Harry Kane but wouldn’t it be amazing for him to win his last big tournament at the European championships and have to his name.

“With him in the side to come in in certain games, he’s absolutely massive for England. Southgate should be on the phone BEGGING him to play.”

Vardy’s goalscoring form keeps pouring from one game to the other. His return from injury saw him net against Liverpool in the Foxes 3-1 win over Liverpool at the King Power Stadium.
