Bayern Leverkusen have given Chelsea up to August 28 to wrap up Kai Havertz deal or forget about the transfer, reports the Mirror.

The German club is sticking to their £90m asking price for the 20-year old without considering Chelsea’s price reduction plea.

Leverkusen are not in a hurry to offload their attacking midfielder for finances and would prefer to avoid transfer distractions as they seek to report to training to begin preseason ahead of the upcoming season.

"With his talent, it means he's on the list of all the best clubs," Sporting Director of Leverkusen, Rudi Voller told Gazzetta dello Sport. "We know of the interest of a couple of clubs, especially Chelsea, but for us, the situation is quite simple: he has a two-year contract, if anyone wants him on our terms, fine, otherwise he stays here another year and we are happy.

"It won't be easy, but for a player like him there is no COVID discount.”

Frank Lampard is desperate to acquire the service of his second German player having signed Timo Werner from RB Leipzig before the season ended. Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech inclusion in the squad means the young English coach is looking forward to upgrading the status of Chelsea as far as trophies are concerned.

A central defender is also likely to join the Blue train to resolve the Chelsea backline.
