Schools in the Obuasi East District have employed a 'shift system' pursuant to adherence of covid-19 safety protocols.

The reopening of school in January has presented one major challenge to teachers and school authorities in the various school as the adherence to the social distancing protocol, a very vital tool in the fight against the pandemic seems to be a major test.

Educationist, Mr Kofi Asare of the Africa Education Watch and a few stakeholders earlier suggested the government must subscribe to the shift system yet before it was officially approved and yet to be implemented by the government, schools in the Obuasi East district were already using the approach.

Classes are supervised in two sessions - trained teachers supervise morning classes before the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) teachers also cater for the afternoon sessions.

The Obuasi Municipal Education Directorate, however, is yet to employ the system but hinted on a possible subscription next week.

In an interview with Shaft FM morning show host Ghanaba, the Public Relations Officer of the Obuasi Municipal Education Directorate, Prince Opoku Mensah informed that the 'shift system' can start as early as next week in the various schools, but however wasn't specific on whether new teachers will be recruited to augment those available.
