Sakyikrom Noka Residents Are Defecating  In Open Places! -Due To Lack Of Public Toilet Facilities; As Residents Blame MP, MCE For Their Problem

Residents in Noka, a farming community within the Sakyikrom Traditional Area in the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipality of the Eastern Region have been defecating in fields, forests, bushes, bodies of water, or other open spaces, Soireenew.com can authoritatively report.

According to information available to this news outlet, open defecation has become rampant in the Sakyikrom Noka, where residents expect to have decent toilet facilities some ten years after they attained community status.
In a visit by Soireenews.com to Sakyikrom Noka on Wednesday July 13, 2022 to authenticate the situation, the residents expressed disquiet over the failure on the part of their Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam Adoagyiri Constituency, Mr Frank Annoh-Dompreh and the Municipal District Executive (MCE) of the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly, Mr Isaac Kwadwo Buabeng to provide some basic amenities.

They noted that they only turned the bushes as their public toilet facilities because there are no public toilet facilities in their area.
“Brother, we need the public toilet facilities here because we cannot continue to ease ourselves in the bushes in this 24 century, I for instance, ease myself in the bush; imagine what will happen to me if I am bitten by a snake,” an aged woman told this reporter.
Another middle-aged woman whose house was located near the brushes of where the residents defecated complained about the stench emanating from the human feceas.
“We are suffering here because as we are staying here, we’ve had to endure that smell every day and it seems we don’t have a leader to help us in our community,” she said.

Asked if they have drawn the attention of their Assembly member, Municipal Chief Executive and MP to the life-threatening situation, another woman retorted “they know this problem because anytime they come here they see it.”
“We are told that communicable diseases are common but when we are about to eat or drink, houseflies would just be around us,” they lamented.
 
"We are really suffering here. The stench is just too much yet we are forced to deal with this bad situation," they further lamented.
 
At press conference which turned to be he durbar in Sakyikrom Noka on Wednesday July 13, 2022, the visibly angered residents complained that the MP and MCE for the area have neglected them and they are not surprised that they are dealing with sanitation challenges.
 
“We don’t see him when he comes to this place. We have complained for years but this is our situation,” they added.
 
However, at a crowded press conference on Wednesday July 13, 2022,, the residents expressed worry over the lack of social amenities in the area, thus calling on government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to come to their aid, so as to alleviate the suffering of the people.
According to the Paramount Queen-mother of Pom town who doubles as the Krontihemaa of the Akwamu Traditional Area, Nana Baffuor Oponwaa II who made the call on behalf of residents of Sakyikrom Noka, residents of the area (Sakyikrom Noka) under the Akwamu Traditional Area have been neglected of the provision of roads, school facilities, school, health facility, potable water and toilet facility. 

Addressing a press conference in Sakyikrom Nok, the Queen-mother lamented over the increasing rate of youth unemployment in Sakyikrom Noka, saying that the situation has made disproportionate numbers of youth involved with alcohol and other drugs in the area.
He pointed out that the lack of public toilet facilities in the area making majority of the residents of Sakyikrom Noka to practice open defecation in bushes risking their lives being attacked by dangerous reptiles.

She pointed out that since the people of Sakyikrom Noka settled on the land in 1885 due to the lack of the public toilet, scores of the residents chosen to defecate in fields, bushes, forests and cemetery, the development which the queen described worry and unacceptable.
She recommended that stakeholders under Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly to  should ensure the provision of public toilets to the residents of Sakyikrom Noka.

For their part, some residents who spoke to Soirreenews.com, blamed the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam Adoagyiri Constituency Honourable Frank Annoh-Dompreh and the Municipal  District Executive of the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly, Mr Isaac Kwadwo Buabeng have ignored the numerous appeals the residents have been making.
They pointed out the only choice left is for them to boycott and ban political activities in the area and declared that“no potable water toilet, school, road, no vote.”
When contacted on Monday July 18, 2022, the Municipal District Executive (MCE) of the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly, Mr Isaac Kwadwo Buabeng denied claimed that the Assembly has neglected the people in Sakyikrom Noka of provision some basic amenities.
The MCE stated that the Assembly has built a toilet facility for the people in the area, adding that there is construction of the ongoing project of another toilet facility at Sakyikrom Noka.
He called on the Ghanaians to disregard the statement residents that there are no public toilet facilities in their area, making to practice open defecation.
