Residents of Tamale Hits the Street over Police Brutality

Some irate youth in Tamale Saturday afternoon went on a rampage to register their displeasure over the molestation meted out to some residents accused of electricity theft by NEDCO/NEDCo.

The accused persons early this week were subjected to beatings and inhuman treatment by personnel from the Ghana Police Service, Northern Command.

The youth numbering about a thousand during the protest pelted stones at the Lamashegu Divisional Police Station and the Regional Police Headquarters which resulted in the destruction of office windows as well as vehicles.

The irate youth also proceeded to the main office of the Volta River Authority (VRA) in Tamale, where they destroyed several properties belonging to the power distributor.

The angry youth after the protest submitted a petition to the various Chief's in Tamale in order to call the police to order.

Spokesperson of the demonstrators, Hon. Mba Bunyuribua addressing the media said the police have carried out inhuman operations in Tamale, which their superiors had done nothing about.

According to him, the youth of Tamale are peace-loving people, hence their petition to the chiefs.

He called on the management of the police service and NEDCo to change their style of operations to avoid future accident.

Some chiefs in Tamale when the youth stormed their palaces also called on the police top management to call their men to order.
