Protect Groundwater From Pollution Sanitation And Water Resources Minister Urges Ghanaians

Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Mrs. Cecilia Abena Dapaah, has called on the general public to protect groundwater from pollution and use it sustainably.
Speaking at the World Water Day, 2022 in Dodowa, the Sanitation Minister stated that groundwater feeds springs, rivers, lakes, and wetlands into oceans, therefore everybody must save and manage it well.
According to her, groundwater is invisible but its impact is visible everywhere and is a hidden treasure that enriches our lives.
Mrs. Dapaah added that illegal mining activities, deforestation, pollution from both liquid and solid waste disposal, and poor use of land use activities have deteriorated water quality, thereby affecting the ability of surface water to recharge and protect aquifers for the needed groundwater. 
The occasion was chaired by, Nene Okukrubour Tei Kwesi Agyemang V, Numersi Mantse, Dodowa.
Other dignitaries who attended the durbar included, Mr. Fred Offei, DCE for Shai Osudoku, Mr. Abdourahamane Diallo, UNESCO Representative to Ghana, Annie Claire Dufay, Acting UNICEF Representative to Ghana, the general public,c, and school children of Dodowa.
The theme for 2022 World Water Day is "Groundwater- making Invisible Visible.".
The theme was chosen to enhance economic activity and promote groundwater sustainability. 
The Director for Water at the Ministry of Sanitation, Donnan Tay spoke on behalf of Hon Cecilia Abena Dapaah.
The District Chief Executive of Shai Osudoku, Mr. Fred Offei also called on stakeholders to play a collective effort in preventing pollution of freshwater resources and ensuring accessibility to potable water to save a life.
