In connection with the kidnapping of more than 130 students from institutions in Kaduna state, Nigerian police claim they have detained two alleged ringleaders.

Following the kidnapping of at least 17 students from Greenfield University and 121 students from Bethel Baptist High School, security forces initiated a statewide assault on criminal groups.

The hostages were freed after a ransom was paid, but five of the university students were killed in captivity.
