Police Chase Perpetrators of Yong Dakpemayili Chieftaincy Fracas that resulted in incineration of 23 houses

The Northern Regional Police Command has issued a bench warrant for the immediate arrest of Chief Fuseini Chimson and 5 perpetrators believed to have fueled the recent chieftaincy dispute at Yong-Dakpema Yili, in the Tamale Metropolis of the Northern Region.

On Thursday, February 18, 2021, extensive sporadic gunshots were fired in a chieftaincy dispute between supporters of two brothers thus; (Mohammed Chimson and Fuseini Chimson)  who are contesting to become the next traditional rulers of Yong-Dakpemayili.

This resulted in the burning of 23 houses and properties such as motorbikes, clothing, foodstuffs burnt among others.

As a result, many dwellers in the community fled from the Community to adjoining neighborhoods for safety.

Supt. Bernard Baba Manga, the Northern Regional Police Crime officer said in a statement that a bench warrant has been issued to effect the arrest of the suspected perpetrators.

The statement said “intelligence of the police has helped in the apprehension of fifteen suspects. Eight of them currently on remand.  Bench warrants have been issued to arrest 5 others including Chief Fuseini Chimson who is one of the chieftaincy faction. Seven of those arrested are being investigated and process before the court.”

He added that "We are still pursing the chief and his subjects who carried out such crimes as conspiracy to commit Crime, rioting with weapons, causing unlawful damage, the threat of death or harm, etc.".

Currently, business activities in the area have seized due to continuous threats by Supporters of the two feuding factions.
