Police Administration Sympathises with Volta Regional Police 

Police Administration, led by the Director-General(D-G) National Patrol Department, COP Mr. Paul Mainly Awini on Monday, February 14, 2022, visited the Volta Regional Police Command to sympathize with them on the death of two Police officers of Peki District Police and injured persons who were involved in the Asikuma -Kpeve highway fatal road accident yesterday, Sunday, 13th February 2022. 

The deceased officers; General Corporal Evans Quansah and Constable Richard Dadzie were on their way to their duty point at Opukuase near Asikuma junction when the unfortunate crash happened.

COP Mr. Paul Mainly Awini assured the bereaved family of the Police Administration's maximum support in these trying moments and also wished the injured persons a speedy recovery.

He expressed the Administration's appreciation to all doctors and staff of the Peki Government Hospital for their dedicated care to the injured. 

A Police Clinical psychologist has since commenced psychological support to the wife of Corporal Evans Quansah in this difficult time.

They also commend the Volta Regional Police Commander and his deputy as well as the Emergency Services for their timely response to the incident. 

The D-G National Patrol Department was accompanied by D-G Motor Traffic and Transport Department COP Mr. Francis Aboagye Nyarko, D-G Welfare DCOP Mrs. Habiba Twumasi Sarpong, and other Senior Police Officers.

Background 
On 13/02/2022 about 8:15 am suspect Asupah Kwame, aged 25 was driving a Ford Transit bus with registration No.GJ 729-21 with seventeen (17) passengers on board traveling from Accra to Kpassa. On reaching a section of the road between Asikuma and Peki on the Asikuma -Kpeve highway, one of the vehicle tires reportedly burst and the vehicle veered into the opposite lane and crashed head-on with APSONIC motorbike No. M-22 VR 4 ridden by G/Const. Richard Dadzie with pillion rider G/Cpl. Evans Quansah all of Peki Police Station who were on their way to the Police checkpoint at Opokuase near Asikuma junction. 

The vehicle and the motorbike somersaulted and landed in the offside bush when facing Peki's direction. Six persons made up of two Police officers, and three (3) male and one female passenger on board the ford transit bus died on the spot. 11 passengers on board the vehicle including the suspect driver sustained injuries and were rushed to the Peki Government Hospital for medical attention. 

The Regional Commander COP/Mr. Edward Oduro Kwarteng and DCOP/Mr. Andrew Boadu Ekumah visited the scene of the accident at Opokuase on the Asikuma Peki highway. Also proceeded to Peki-Government Hospital where the injured were receiving treatment. He later met personnel at the station and gave them words of encouragement to uplift their spirit and morale.

The command further visited the wife of Evans Quansah, Charlotte Chamba, and family at Dzodze to formally inform them about the sad news.

Additionally, the Inspector General of Police per a phone conversation consoled the bereaved wife and encouraged her to be strong in this difficult time.
