PNC praises parliament over passage of Anti-Witchcraft Bill

The People’s National Convention (PNC), has commended Ghana’s Parliament on the passage of the Anti-Witchcraft Bill.

This was contained in a press release issued and signed by Madam Janet Asana Nabla, the General Secretary of PNC.

The PNC, she indicated, as a political party is worried about the plight of the vulnerable, especially women and children, and was thrilled when the Parliament of Ghana put aside their political differences and passed the Anti Witchcraft Bill to protect mostly the lives of the elderly women in the country.

“Although the bill came a little bit late after a lot of women have lost their lives and property, it is better late than never”.

The party Madam Janet Asana Nabla averred, hopes that the president would append his signature to the law as soon as possible to enable its prompt implementation to prevent further dehumanization and murders of innocent women in the country.

“The party, however, has reservations about shutting the camps down immediately without putting in place measures to reintegrate these women who have lost their livelihood, family, and friends back into the society”.

The party appealed to parliament to consider facilitating the establishment of shelters or old people homes for elderly persons who have been rejected by their relatives and hence find it impossible to fend for themselves.

“The divine books of all religions contain in them an instruction to take care of the elderly. The economic woes of the country can only be salvaged if we are compassionate to the elderly as recommended by the good books”.
