Investigative journalist, Mannaseh Azure Awuni, has added his voice to calls on the Akufo-Addo government, to shut down educational institutions following spike in COVID-19 cases.

 The journalist’s charge, comes at the back of some COVID-19 infections being recorded in some of the schools which were reopened.

 

 

President Akufo-Addo eased the restrictions on Educational Institutions to allow final year students to take their exit exams.

Tertiary education institutions and Senior High Schools reopened on June 15, 2020, and June 22, 2020, respectively.

Following the reopening of schools, Accra Technical University, Accra Girls Senior High School (AGISS), Wesley Grammar, Odorgonno have all recorded cases

 In response to the recent developments, Mannaseh Azure, in a series of posts on his Facebook Timeline, wrote, “Pharaoh, allow the children to go home!

 


“Some state institutions are shutting down and workers are going home or working from home, but when you question the wisdom of reopening SHS, foot soldiers say COVID-19 is here to stay.”

He however cautioned teachers to observe precautionary measures in the absence of government intervention.

Meanwhile, the West African Examination Council (WAEC), has released its August 2020 timetable for final year students in Senior High Schools (SHSs).

According to the timetable, the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will commence on Monday, July 20, 2020, and end on September 5, 2020.

The five-week examination will start with the project works for Visual Arts students, while theory papers will start from August 3, 2020.
