Pastor Mensa Otabil did not resign because of a scandal-Dr. Paul Opoku-Mensah

The Executive Director, National Cathedral Secretariat, (NCS), Dr. Paul Opoku-Mensah has debunked assertions that the General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church(ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil resigned as a member of the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral of Ghana because there was a scandal with which he did not want to associate himself with.

According to him, the Man of God was just a member of the Board of Trustees but not a Member of the Board of Directors so the matter of resignation does not come in.

He explained that the issue of the Board of Directors came up when the National Cathedral was registered as a company in which board Pastor Mensa Otabil was not a member.

He further said that for one to be a Member of the Board of Trustees, one has to be appointed by an appointor(The President) and to be a Member of the Board of Directors, it is only through registering the Cathedral as a company then Members of Trustees will become Board of Directors.

He added that Pastor Mensa Otabil spelled out clearly that he would not be committed to the regular meetings which come with being a member of the Board of Directors so neither did not resign nor was he a member of the Board of Directors.

He further explained that the issue of registration happened in 2019 when he was not a Member so he could not understand why the Man of God's recusal was misconstrued to be resignation", he queried.

At the same time, he said the ICGC General Overseer stated the instance of concentrating on his new church building at Teshie Nungua as well as relocation hence will not be available for meetings. He said Pastor Mensa Otabil needed to pay more attention to that church building.

He disclosed Tema at a meeting with the Churches in Ashaiman and Tema to make them appreciate the need for church members should prioritize the concept of contributing to the building of the Cathedral which has been initiated by the President, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo.
