The Akim Oda Divisional Police Command in the Birim Central of the Eastern Region has impounded a taxi cab on the Akyem Akroso-Oda highway.

They also and arrested one person for an attempt to smuggle about 31 compressed slabs of alleged marijuana inside a taxi cap.

The 39-year-old man Kofi Owusu, who claimed ownership of the illicit items in the taxi cab with registration number GX 779-20 driven by one Christian Aboagye, immediately arrested by the Oda Divisional Patrol team.

A search conducted in the taxi cab found a red bag and fertilizer sack containing plantain, but the Police officers suspiciously, thoroughly searched the sack and found the compressed parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp concealed under the plantain.

Police Eastern Regional Public Relation Officer, Sgt. Ebenezer Tetteh confirmed the arrest and the number of parcels retrieved from the taxi cap.

He narrated, that a total of 31 parcels were retrieved and counted in the presence of the suspect, adding, that the suspect will be put before the court today, June 14, 2021.
