Armed robbers have ransacked a pharmacy shop, a mobile money operator, and an Electricity Prepaid vendor at Akuapem Mampong in Akuapem North Municipality in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

The incident occurred on Tuesday dawn, September 28, 2021.

The gang destroyed a CCTV camera in the MedFarm Pharmaceutical Shop before they broke into a save, making away with huge sums of undisclosed money.

The gang besieged an ECG Prepaid Vendor opposite the pharmacy shop and entered the room through ceilings, undisclosed sums of money were taken away from the drawers before the Momo Agent, and a general merchant shop was ransacked, by this unknown gang who then absconded with unspecified monies, mobile phones, and ladies footwear.

The Apesemakahene of Mampong Akuapem Traditional Council, Nana Yirenkyi I, linked the robbery to Odwira and Ohum Festival which is gathering momentum in the area with brisk activities.

According to him, Nananom has taken notice and has held a meeting with the Mampong Akuapem Police Command on the need to intensify Patrols before, during and after the Odwira/Ohum festivals.

He said the Traditional council will also form watchdog committees to argue the work of the police during the festivity.

The Mampong Akuapem North Police Command has however said a formal complaint has been lodged by the affected victims and investigations has begun into the cause of the incident and a search to get the culprit have begun.

Armed Robberies in the Eastern Region have reduced for the past month following the deployment of the Anti-Armed Robbery squad deployed to the region by the Acting Inspector General of Police who also paid a working visit to parts of the region last week to assure residents of the Police’s commitment to protecting them and their properties.
