Obesity rising more sharply in Africa - report

By 2035, just over half of the world's population will be classified as obese or overweight, according to the World Obesity Federation, which is pleading with countries to take action.

More than four billion people will be impacted, according to its most recent report, and children are especially susceptible.

It claims that almost all of the nations anticipated to experience the biggest rises are low- or middle-income nations in Asia and Africa.

Weaker policies to control food supply and marketing, higher levels of sedentary behavior, trends in dietary preferences toward more highly processed foods, and inadequate funding for healthcare services to help with weight management and health instruction are some of the causes.

By 2035, the federation projects that the annual financial impact of obesity will reach $4 trillion.
