The governing NPP will put in place measures to support its Members of Parliament (MPs)  to live up to expectation, the party's National Organizer, Sammi Awuku has said.

Mr Awuku admitted that the party expected its candidate, Prof. Mike Oquaye, to win the Speakership election in parliament. Yet, opposition's candidate, Alban Bagbin won.

However, he stated that NPP was not deterred at all, adding, “we will work closely with our MPs to deliver as expected to the people of this country.”

“ let me also congratulate NPP Members of Parliament and encourage them that the future is definitely bright, it is what it is now, the die is cast and they need to give off their best and as a party, we will be there to support them”, he said as quoted by thedailyguidenetwork.

Both the ruling NPP and the opposition NDC have 137 MPs each with one independent MP who comes from the NPP but ran as an independent candidate in December 7, parliamentary elections.

Mr. Awuku believes the current Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumani Bagbin with a wealth of knowledge as the longest-serving lawmaker in the country, will put his political lenses down and live up to expectation in a bipartisan way.

“ I don’t see the Speaker Alban Bagbin as a mischievous character, this is someone who has distinguished himself in parliament for almost three decades”, he pointed out.
