Former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr. Agyei Darko, has bemoaned the disunity within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) which he stressed was adversely affecting the progress of the party.

In an interview with Soireenews.com, the former minister decried the internal wranglings within the party which caused them in the 2008 and 2012 general elections.

According to him, it would be difficult for the party to break the 8 it seeks without unity.

Mr. Agyei Darko believes the party needs a leader who can unite the party, in his words "a leader determines the fate of an organization and at this point, the NPP needs a person with good leadership skills and has lived by example" he said.

When asked if he believes the former Minister of Foreign affairs, Mr. Akwasi Osei-Agyei, is fit for the job after expressing his intention to contest for the chairmanship position, he responded that " we need unity, a team player, someone who would serve but not lord over the party.

He added that "We need a person who respects others and their opinion, a person to instill a sense of belongingness in the party, as well as make the party attractive for all and not question of who can pay, and I believe my former colleague falls in that criteria",  he said.

The former minister went on to recount how efficient Mr. Akwasi Osei-Agyei, was when he served as a former Foreign Affairs Minister.

Mr. Akwasi Osei-Agyei in a meeting with the press last Tuesday hinted of his intention to contest for the chairmanship position in the NPP's upcoming National Executives election.
