NLA donates ¢15,000 to a veteran actor who is blind.

The Good Causes Foundation of the National Lottery Authority has given GH15,000 to renowned actor William Addo.

They couldn't sit still, according to the NLA, after seeing the actor, who had gone blind a few years ago, open out about his problems in the years after his vision impairment.

Deputy Coordinator Ama Frimpong told TV personality MzGee that the actor had previously appeared in NLA advertising.

She explained that the Authority wished to help the actor after years of collaboration, hence the donation.

"The Good Causes Foundation considered this was someone who had served his country effectively and had a relationship with NLA at some point." Madam Frimpong stated, "He has paid his dues."

"This is the Foundation's mission: to assist the elderly, orphans, defenseless, and marginalized in society." So we reasoned, why not do something about it? So we offer this cheque to Mr. Addo on behalf of the NLA Good Causes Foundation," she continued.

This comes after the actor disclosed to MzGee in an interview that he has been battling since turning blind roughly ten years ago.

The actor, who now resides in Tefle in the Ga Adangme district, said that the ECG had disconnected him from the national grid for the past five years.

He stated that he had roughly GHC5,000 in debt and requested assistance. He also revealed how he lost his vision.

"I was all prepared to travel to the United States; my passports and five-year stay visa had been approved, and that's when I started having eye trouble, so I went to visit a doctor, who told me it was nothing serious," he explained.

He went on to say that his eye began to worsen after a hard time with the procedure, and he had to cancel the trip.

Despite the operation, the veteran's right eye, which was previously healthy, began to suffer and he gradually lost sight in that eye as well.

Meanwhile, Mr. Addo expressed gratitude to the Authority and MzGee for the NLA donation. He expressed his gratitude to the TV celebrity for coming to interview him and inform the public about his problem.

"I'm at a loss for words; I don't know where to begin, but the Lord be praised, and I thank them as well...

"I just feel like crying," he said. "I thank you, God is raised, I thank you."
