Nigerian Navy dismisses Ukpawanne

Nigerian Navy (NN) has sacked Sub Lieutenant V. N. Ukpawanne with service number NN/4440.

Ukpawanne was dismissed for attempted sodomy, use of drugs, controlled substance, and disobedience to a standing order.

A general court-martial demoted him and ordered six-month imprisonment, another six-month imprisonment, and one-year imprisonment for the offenses.

Ukpawanne will be handed over to Sapele Correctional Centre after his medical clearance from the Naval Medical Centre.

The court martial found the convict guilty of attempting to sexually assault a teenager near Sapele Stadium on 27th October 2021.

The officer was paraded and his sentences were read accordingly on 15th August 2022.

The charges were an attempt to commit sodomy– punishable under section 95 of the AFA CAP A20 LFN 2004, disobedience to standing order– which violated section 57 of the AFA CAP A20 LFN 2004.

Others included disgraceful conduct– punishable under Section 93 of the AFA CAP A20 LFN 2004, and wrongful use of drug/controlled substance– punishable under Section 65 (1) of the AFA CAP A20 LFN 2004.
