Popular Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie has stated that the state of the economy is not worth celebrating.

Edochie revealed this on Thursday on his Twitter handle, noting that Nigerians are suffering, hence there is no need for celebration.

The actor lamenting, listed unemployment, increase in petrol price, amongst major issues as those things affecting Nigerians.

His tweet read: “I cannot wish anyone a happy independence when my people are not happy.

What are we celebrating? Fuel price increase? Electricity tariff hike? Hardship? Bad roads? Killings everywhere? Jobless youths turned beggars?

“The list is endless. Speak the truth, Nigerians are suffering.”

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari in his Independence Day broadcast said fuel will now be sold at N161 per litre in Nigeria.

According to him, other nations such as Ghana, Niger, Chad, Saudi Arabia and other oil-producing countries sell petrol at higher prices than Nigeria.
