Newly-elected MUSIGA executives to be sworn in today

Today, October 24, at 11 a.m. in Accra, the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) will hold a swearing-in ceremony for its newly elected officers.

 Mark Okraku Mantey, the deputy minister of tourism, arts, and culture, is anticipated to attend as the distinguished guest of honor.

Former presidents of the Union, notable musicians, and other stakeholders are anticipated to attend the event, which will be presided over by the Executive Director of the National Commission on Culture (NCC).

Bessa Simons is the new president, Rev. Dr. Thomas Yawson is the first vice president, Abena Ruthy is the second vice president, S.K. Agyemang is the general secretary, Rev. Eddie Eyison is the national treasurer, Chizzy Wailer is the national organizer, and Rev. Gifty Ghansah is the national welfare officer.

The newly elected MUSIGA executives are said to represent a wide spectrum of skill and industry knowledge in a press statement that was signed by Bessa Simons.

"Their shared goal is to further advance the rights of Ghanaian musicians and strengthen the nation's thriving musical tradition. The swearing-in event represents their dedication to safeguarding MUSIGA's ideals and servicing its members' interests, the statement read.

Biography of MUSIGA

All of Ghana's musicians and music industry professionals are represented by the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA). It has more than 4000 members and was incorporated in 1975.

Its goal is to "promote and preserve Ghanaian culture through education and provide the Ghanaian musician with the tools necessary to be independent, creative, and diligent."

It is controlled by a National Executive Committee that is chosen at a National Congress and is tasked with promoting and looking out for Ghanaian musicians.
