Presidential candidate of the United Front Party (UFP) Akwasi Addai Odike has castigated the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his partisan-decision towards the stage 1 easing of lockdown protocols on coronavirus in Ghana.

According to the politician, the president of Ghana purposely eased limitations to permit the New Patriotic Party to conduct its suspended parliamentary primaries and for the Electoral Commission to carry on with the New Voters’ Registration exercise to his favor ahead of December 7, general elections.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo on Sunday, May 31, 2020, in his 10th Address on Measures Taken to Combat the Spread of Coronavirus endorsed the Electoral Commission (EC), the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the National Identification Authority (NIA) to commence works to prepare Ghana towards conducting safe and peaceful elections.

“Market places, workplaces, public transport, and constitutional and statutory bodies such as the Electoral Commission, the National Commission for Civic Education and the National Identification Authority, whose activities were exempted from the outset from these restrictions, must conduct their activities in accordance with social distancing and the necessary hygiene and safety protocols,” he said.

The president kept “sporting events, nightclubs, cinemas, drinking spots, bars, beaches, festivals, funerals, political rallies, and large religious gatherings such as crusades, pilgrimages and conventions” suspended until July 31 2020.

Speaking on Angel in the Morning Show as a program panelist on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, the Ghanaian businessman defined the president’s actions as 'foul play' to enable him achieve the merit of Ghanaians for a second term of office.

“Nana Addo has eased restrictions for the NPP to conduct their primaries. He should be careful in his handlings because we know what he is trying to do by suspending political campaigns.

"He is manipulating other political parties in an effort to win this year’s elections. It is better he leave a better legacy and be voted for than to maneuver ways to win the interest of the people,” he stated.

Odike cautioned that should a civil war arise in Ghana based on the president’s influences, Nana Akufo-Addo’s name would forever be in the history books of the West African country as the worst Ghanaian leader ever, thus the need to be honest with his decisions concerning political matters.

“We do not pray for a civil war to happen, but if it does out of Nana Akufo Addo’s actions, his name will forever be on the lips of Ghanaians. Why don’t we shape Ghana to bring about fairness in political opinions?” he inquired.

He also criticized the Electoral Commissioner (EC), Jean Mensa’s method to install a new Voters’ Register in spite of the former which was used to determine the appointment of the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) leader, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Rendering from Akwasi Addai Odike’s account, he believes that the EC; responsible for all public elections and guaranteed by the 1992 Ghana constitution is acting in favor of the officeholder.

He called for a halt in the pilot voters’ registration exercise ongoing at selected places in the country.

“The EC s incompetent and I don’t support their decision to mandate a new register,” he ended.
