Ghanaian Hiplife artiste, Barima Sidney has declared that his allegiance is to the money and not to any political party in Ghana.

According to him, he is ready and available to campaign for any political party that is ready to pay his fee.

Barima Sidney made this known during a phone interview with host, Dr Cann on Happy FM’s Saturday morning entertainment program ‘Showbiz Xtra’.

He explained that partisan politics should not restrict creativity in the entertainment industry; that there should be no discrimination between individual parties based on loyalty.

“In the world of creativity, there is no discrimination or else if people enter barbershops, they would ask if the barber belongs to NPP or NDC before allowing them to trim their hairs so if any party approaches me, so long as I know how to do what they want me to do, I will do it”.

The artiste stated that his political songs for parties are not endorsements because he is only helping the individual parties t translate their message to the masses.

“I will do a song for any political party that approaches me. I have done a lot of songs for different political parties in the past.
The politician may not be able to write their message through a song. As a creative, I don’t see why I shouldn’t compose a song for a political party.

I am just relaying messages given to me from political parties. It is just like bringing a product to me to advertise for you”,

“You go the extra mile if you as an artist will be on their platform to perform the songs and state that you endorse the candidate. If you go that extra mile, your fans will be divided”.

Barima Sidney clarified that he only supported the New Patriotic Party (NPP)  in 2016 because of its free SHS policy. He said that he is first a citizen before a musician and he reserves the full right to follow any party he sees fit that will push Ghana forwards.

“In 2016, I openly declared my support for the then-candidate Nana Akufo-Addo. I endorsed that if he’s bringing us free SHS and other things then I support him so I openly endorsed which I regret today,” he concluded
