Akwatia MP
National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia Constituency in the Eastern Region, Honourable Henry Boakye Yiadom, affectionately known as Okoyo, has disclosed that he taken a bold initiative to commence the construction of 100 market sheds and the screening of the dilapidated ground at Akwadum market in Akwatia township.

The execution of this project, according to the hardworking MP, was evident that he is dedicated to serving the Akwatia community and delivering on his commitments.

This development, he stressed not only benefits the traders but also contributes to the overall growth and prosperity of the local economy.
"My continuous efforts demonstrate my commitment to serving the people of Akwatia and addressing their needs. It's encouraging to see elected officials actively working to improve the lives of their constituents," Mr. Yiadom told the Soireenews com in an interview today.
The MP told Soireenews.com that the market sheds project when completed would be able to accommodate more than 300 women in the sparsely populated community,

According to the Akwatia MP, he was compelled to construct the market when he realized the dangers posed to the women as they displayed their foodstuffs and other consumable goods on the grounds to sell to the people in the market.
He said during the electioneering campaign in 2020, "l  do pay a visit to the market during the market days which are Mondays and Thursdays.

He pointed out that he realized that there was a challenge facing the women/ traders in the market.

According to Mr Yiadom, he identified that one of the pressing challenges facing the women in Akwatia market was that when it rains some of the market centre becomes very flooded.

He stresed that "I further noticed that some of the women who brought their food stuffs and other commutable goods from other  communities to sell in Akwatia central market have selling their goods on the grounds, posing heath danger to the people who bought the items.

"So these and many challenges facing the market have informed my decision to promise them that if was voted into power, he would ensured that he fixed these problems at the market for the traders to sell in the conducive market environment," he reiterated.

The MP asserted that the starting of the construction of the project was meant to fulfill his campaign promise he has made to the traders in the market.

He said the project would also ease their way of marketing their foodstuffs and other market products to the public to purchase.

"But as is stand now l cannot wait for the rainy season also to come to overtake their businesses in the market because now we are in June and God willing if l don't start something now and l say let me wait till availability of fund nobody knows what are going to happen.

"When the fund should have come earlier l would have commenced the project long time, but since l am committed to carry the  project for the market women, l have to do the sole sourcing of the fund to make sure the project is done to safeguard the flooding situation in the market when it rains," the MP explained
He noted he had to personally solicit funding to be able to embark on the market project.

He said the ongoing market project belonged to the community and advised the people to desist from playing politics within it.
Mr. Yiadom entreated the women to start their own small scale businesses to cater for their children’s educational needs.
