Mozambique urges firms' return to attack-hit region

President Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique has urged private businesses to resume operations in Palma, a city in the province of Cabo Delgado, where operations have been halted since March of last year as a result of terrorist attacks.

In response to efforts taken by the combined forces of Mozambique, Rwanda, and the regional group Sadc, President Nyusi claimed that there were indications that security had been restored.

"Security is currently somewhat better than it was before the last incident. We must begin by keeping in mind that deeds like these never stop. However, life goes on "said he.

He claimed that the state's security would be under pressure if companies resumed safeguarding the ongoing industrial initiatives in the area.

"I know that some businesses are coming back. In a timid way, the populations are there. Companies have to start thinking about this," he noted.

He was speaking on Thursday afternoon in Maputo at a meeting with business leaders.
