A 30-year-old woman who operates mobile money services in Berekum in the Bono Region has been defrauded by a mobile money fraudster on Tuesday afternoon, 8th March 2022.

Speaking to Sorienews, the woman claims she was called by someone supposedly from an MTN office telling her she has won an award for her long service in the operations of the mobile money business. 

She said the fraudster in a conversation explained to the victim that because she doesn't have enough capital for her operations, the perceived MTN caller who is also the fraudster will help her get capital to enable her to expand her business which she conceded. 

The fraudster in succeeding in his tricks asked the victim to send some amount of money to him to claim her award but in turn, the fraudster send him a code for her to input on her phone which he also succeeded to get the secret code of the vendors to withdraw an amount of Gh498.00 from her mobile money wallet. 

The victim after losing her money to the fraudster called to MTN office to report her situation but later got to know that, the fraudster then switched the money to another Vodafone account and the account has been blocked. 

The situation now is, the woman needs a court order together with affirmative and a police report to enable her to retrieve her defrauded amount.

The victim has therefore called on the general public, especially those operating in the mobile money vendoring business to be circumspect of the mobile money fraudsters who use so many trucks to defraud people in the country.
