Finance Minister
The minority in parliament has called on the finance minister as a matter of urgency to make funds available to the country's Health Insurance fund.
Speaking at a press conference today, the ranking member on the health committee, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh expressed his worry over the delay of payment to the national health insurance fund since July 2021 which he stated has had the service providers threaten to withdraw their services.
The lawmaker explained that the national health insurance Act section 52(1) and 52(2) has it that, the national health insurance levy shall be collected by the minister responsible for finance or appoint a person to collect the levy.
He said the constitution demands that the money after collection should be deposited into Health Insurance Account within 30 days.
And must be made Known to Parliament afterward.
According to Mr. Akandoh, since Honorable Ken. Ofori Atta became the finance minister he has never appeared before parliament to perform such a Constitutional mandate which he urged him to do the needful as soon as possible.
