On Monday morning, gunfire and explosions could still be heard coming from a hotel in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, where militants had been laying siege all night.

The Villa Rose hotel, which is well-liked by government officials, is conveniently located near the presidential palace in the heart of Mogadishu.

Al-Shabab terrorists claimed to have overrun the hotel.

The BBC was informed by witnesses that they heard numerous explosions on Monday.
