Residents including store and kiosk owners of Mepe Traditional Area in the North Tongu District Assembly of the Volta Region have publicly endorsed the construction of various inner roads within the township in the area.
This endorsement follows a request made to the central government by traditional leaders and the Mepe Development Association (MDA).
During interviews, many business operators situated along these inner roads welcomed the development.
Although the construction will likely affect their business operations, they expressed a willingness to remove their properties to pave the way for the project.
The residents expressed relief and happiness about the project, noting that the deplorable state of the inner roads had created environmental hazards particularly during the Afenorto festival.
They complained bitterly about inhaling dangerous dust whenever vehicles plied these routes.
"During our annual Afenorto festival activities, we adversely suffered from the dust generated on the roads because our main connecting road from Battor—linking to the Accra-Sogakope-Aflao road—becomes busy, and many vehicles use these inner roads, particularly the stretch from the Maasito Hotel junction through Avorkudimodzi to Mepe Tegorla.
"So, we are happy that today, through our chiefs and the current MDA executives, the government has awarded the construction of the inner roads," the residents praised the government.
Some residents, however, expressed concern over the delayed completion of the main Mepe township road.
According to them, heavy downpours cause flooding in certain parts of the town because access gutters were dug but left open while the main road construction remains ongoing.
They stated that they expected the main road project to be completed before the contractor started excavating gutters for the inner roads.
Despite these concerns, residents indicated their readiness to support the contractor in constructing the inner roads, complementing the already ongoing construction of the Mepe-Battor-Aveyime-Sege road.
They noted that executives of Mepe Development Association had informed them to remove their kiosks and structures from the shoulders of the inner roads, a directive they have complied with because they are eager for the project to proceed.

During this year's annual festival fundraising and mini-durbar ceremony, the Chairman of the MDA, Mr. Bismark Fiifi Tetteh, announced that the government had awarded the Mepe Avorkudi, Mepe St. Kizito Senior High Technical School and other parts of inner roads project to a contractor.
These serve as additional projects to the ongoing Sege-Mepe road construction under the government's initiative to improve local road networks.
Perspectives from Mepe on Inner Roads
Residents of Mepe shared their thoughts on the much-needed road improvements and the challenges caused by the deplorable road networks in the area.
“Residents and business operators along the Sege–Mepe corridor have lauded the initiative, describing the project as a long-awaited.
Particular emphasis was placed on the need to construct effective drainage systems along the road corridor to prevent flooding and erosion.
